Russell's Strictly Diary: Week 1

Once the Muse of Enchantment had clicked her rhythmic fingers and danced her magic into my life by partnering me with World Champion Latin diva Flavia Cacace, thoughts turned from fantasy to some rather less magical realities. After all, fantasies are wonderful - but can easily slip right through our fingers.
For me, the chance to join the Strictly Come Dancing team is fabulous fantasia - but if I am to find any kind of success, a grip on reality will be essential.

So how to turn a dream into reality? Well, sheer hard work is hardly the stuff that dreams are made of, but it's certainly a start. I have always been a very disciplined person and when I make my mind up to do something I pull out all the stops.

The Goddess of Expectation, Venus, soon revealed her plan when Flavia came into the rehearsal room clutching our first number: Venus - the Bananarama hit. And with that, we finally started work.

But then the imp of Forgetfulness struck. No dance shoes arrived with the crew - and I had to rehearse in standard trainers instead. Unfortunately, they aren't the right thing for this sort of work and before I knew it I was hopping around the dance floor with a throbbing toe. Come Sunday, I was having a full-blown foot emergency and had to call on some expert chiropodist help.

But I wasn't giving up. Far from it. In fact, for three days Flavia continued to choreograph while I continued to limp around and did what I could to help. Forget Moira Shearer in The Red Shoes; it was just me with a red foot.

But while I am out my comfort zone in one way, I am so cosy in another. For whatever happens, I will have no regrets. I am not in it to win it, but here strictly to live my dream of getting fit and doing something I once could only have dreamed about. And for that, thank you Flavia. You are a goddess.

We'd love to feed Nicola Roberts a big fat burger

Or at the very least a good hot meal.

The Girls Aloud singer turned up at last night's BT Digital Music awards looking decidedly tiny.

Admittedly she's never been a chunky lass but we're concerned that her interest in fashion has gone beyond the clothes - let's face it, she wouldn't look out of place on an haute couture catwalk.

Don't get us wrong, we love Nicola - she's pale and proud (despite being bullied), pretty, and we'd take her style advice over Katie Price's any day.

But we never like to see the stars getting too thin and judging by that tiny waist, Nicola's joined the size zero brigade.

And we'd hate to see her tottering around like her Bambi-like bandmate Nadine Coyle.
Let's hope BT put on a good spread.

What do you think - is Nicola looking a bit too thin or just right? Leave a comment below...

Heaven Afrika evicted from Big Brother

There were no surprises at last night's Big Brother eviction as Heaven Afrika was voted out of the house.

The third contestant to be heavily booed, things were slightly worse for Heaven, who managed to trip as she climbed the stairs, prompting the crowd to chant "you fell over" repeatedly.

Fair play to this year's evicted housemates though - none of them seem bothered by the crowd's reaction.

In her eviction interview, the holistic healer said: "I've got to say I adore my haters who are my biggest fans. They don't know how to express their love in a positive way."

Yeah... that'll be it.

However, she did admit: "I'm like Marmite - you either love me or hate me."
In other BB news, last week's evictee Rebeckah appears to be changing her mind about in-house love Aden.

Having gushed about the 'cool nerd' in her eviction interview, Rebeckah's sympathy ran out when Aden spent the week mourning her departure.

"I'm rapidly going off him," she confessed on Big Brother's Bit on the Side. "This side I have seen to him since I've left, I'm not happy [with]. I taught him better than that in there."

Aww... young love, eh?

What do you think - did the voting public get it right this week? Leave a comment below...

Robbie 'does a Sinitta' for X Factor

ITV

Cheeky chappy Robbie Williams did his best to crack Gary Barlow's super-serious X Factor judging persona by 'doing a Sinitta'.

In a nod to Sinitta's attention-grabbing entrance, the Take That singer stripped off and covered his modesty with a few well-placed palm leaves.
As he stepped out to greet Gary's hopefuls, Robbie explained: "I saw Sinitta and thought, 'That's what I want to do'.

"What do you reckon, lads?!"

Um... we think Gary's face probably says it all. Just be thankful he kept his pants on Gary.

It's not the only problem Mr Barlow has with his bandmate.

Following Craig Colton's performance Robbie, who admitted that he'd be too soft as an X Factor judge, joked that he would "fall out" with Gary if the wannabe didn't "get good grades".

So will Craig make it to the live finals? You'll just have to watch tonight's show to find out.

What do you reckon - has Gary got the X Factor winner amongst his group? Comments below...

From the tens of thousands who entered, only 32 X Factor hopefuls have made it through to judges' houses. Find out who will be battling it out for a place in the live shows...
