Russell's Strictly Diary: Week 5

BBC

Monday was a strange day. First of all there was a breakdown in communication somewhere along the line and Flavia missed her connecting train up to North Wales. By the time she arrived Monday was almost over and done with. On top of that I had to schedule time in the afternoon to visit our local hospital. The knee has continued to play me up so the doctors thought it would be a good idea to have an MRI scan to see what's going on.
It is rather painful and I will have to watch what I get up to, but luckily this week's dance is the Samba and that means a little less wear and tear on the knee.

As we approach Halloween we shouldn't have been surprised to encounter one or two inexplicable happenings in our rehearsal rooms, which are over 100 years old. First of all I heard someone call "Russell", but there was no-one to be seen. Then Flavia heard someone cry out, but again there was no-one to be seen. To top it all I saw a figure run along the back of the balcony and apparently this is not the first time that people have seen this strange apparition in the hall! It's all very spooky!

Although the practice sessions have been shortened by Monday's events everything has gone very smoothly. Flavia and I both love the Samba. It has its origins in Brazil and it is THE dance of the carnival season so that should be fun for everyone! Flavia says many people find it one of the more tricky steps to master, but I feel quite at home with this rhythmical, exciting dance. And Flavia agrees!

There's a whole host of the kindest and most thoughtful letters and cards to read through and answer and that's always a priority. Thank you to everyone who has written in - your encouragement and support means so much to me.

Thank goodness for an early night Wednesday. I was wacked out after a totally taxing, tiring time over the last couple of days. A lovely bit of smoked haddock for tea and in bed for ten o'clock because Thursday is an early start.

Up at 6am and off we go, leaving our lovely Wales and heading south to London. Today's schedule has a lot of press interviews as well as joining Zoe Ball for It Takes Two in the evening. Somewhere along the line Flavia and I need to find time to practice our Samba!

Friday morning I dropped in on Chris Evans to join him for his breakfast show and then it was back to the ballroom for some last minute rehearsals.

It certainly is a demanding time. The days fly by and there is hardly a spare moment to rest and relax. But I am loving every minute of it. This is definitely THE time of my life and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I know the rest of the gang will have been working just as long and as hard as I have and I am sure we are all feeling the pace one way or another.

I think you'll enjoy Saturday's show and although we will all be having a great time it will be tinged with sadness as we will have to say goodbye to one our small band.

See you Saturday and thanks for being there!

That Amy Childs has been a right busy bee since leaving TOWIE.

She's had a regular spot in This Morning, done a stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house, landed her own reality TV show, is opening a salon and now she's managed to squeeze in designing her own clothing line.

Phew.
Amy took to the catwalk to launch the rather imaginatively titled The Amy Childs Collection at Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model Live in London.

The reality star has put her name to someone else's work designed a range of 20 pieces, ranging from party dresses to day wear that will be available to buy online.

"I am so pleased with my new clothing range, it has been a lifelong dream of mine," she said.

"My passion has always been beauty and fashion so I have really enjoyed being involved in every aspect of the design process.

"I have made sure that there is something for everyone and I cannot wait to see people wearing the clothes from my collection."

So once you've had your vajazzle, you can pop on one of Amy's frocks and you'll be proper, authentic Essex, innit?

The Z-listers are coming thick and fast for I'm A Celebrity ahead of next month's show.

The latest face rumoured to be heading to Oz is Simon Cowell's former right-hand woman Sinitta.

Having failed to blag her way into Simon's X Factor USA team, the So Macho singer has reportedly signed a £30,000 deal to star in the ITV show.
An insider told The Sun, "Simon helped get her the show. She loves being on TV and she should be good value and a bit of a mother figure. She knows all of Simon's secrets so producers will be hoping she lets some slip."

Knowing Sinitta, that seems more than likely.

It will mean the 1980s pop star misses most of The X Factor live shows but that's a small price to pay for daily prime-time coverage, right?

Other celebs rumoured to be gearing up for the bush tucker trials are Freddie Starr, Benidorm actress Crissy Rock, Imogen Thomas and TOWIE ladies' man Mark Wright.

Fair play to Madonna... she's still trying ever so hard to prove she's funny and down-to-earth.

Unfortunately, it usually means acting. And as anyone who has endured Swept Away will know, that's not her strong suit.
Madge's latest attempt to wow us with her thespian skills comes in the form of a spoof video announcing the launch of her search for a model for the Material Girl clothing line..

Featuring daughter Lourdes and the Queen of Pop herself, the footage centres around Madonna's material girl image and how it was "meant to be ironic", her diva tendencies ("fruit hurts my stomach") and, of course, the mother-daughter duo's search for the next Material Girl.

And no Madonna spoof would be complete without the infamous hydrangeas incident getting a mention.

All we can say is, thank goodness for Lourdes. Unlike her mother, she's a natural.

If you can bear four minutes of Madge's acting, check out the video below...

X Factor: The Risk left 'devastated' as Ashley quits

There's chaos all round at The X Factor studios this week.

Not only is Kelly Rowland stuck in LA with an "extremely rare" sore throat, but The Risk have lost one of their group.

Ashley Baptiste has left the lads "devastated" by announcing his decision to quit the band on Thursday night.

Nothing like a bit of notice, eh Ash?
According to The Mirror, 22-year-old Ashley said, "It's been a really tough decision but I have decided to leave The Risk.

"I don't believe my future lies in a boyband and it's not fair on Charlie, Derry and Andy to remain in the band when I am not truly committed to it for the long term."

Hmm... probably could have mentioned that at, oh... the judges' houses phase, maybe?

Groups mentor Tulisa is understandably a bit peeved.

"I can't lie, I am devastated," she said, through gritted teeth (probably). "More so the boys are devastated. He was feeling a certain way, basically he couldn't hack the pressure and this wasn't what he wanted to do.

"... The boys were left in the dark, we had no idea this was how he was feeling. He dropped it on us two days before the live show and the boys were like 'you absolute d**k'."

Remaining members Charlie, Andrew and Derry now believe their chances have been "ruined".

There is one chap who's happy about the situation though.

Ashford Campbell, the pointy-haired one from failed boyband Nu Vibe, has been called in as Ashley's replacement.

X Factor: The Risk left 'devastated' as Ashley quitsITV

"I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I got the call," an excitable Ashford told the Mirror. "I had to speak to the Nu Vibe boys first and once they gave me their blessing I was straight back on the phone to grab the offer.

"It's unbelievable and now I've got to work even harder after my break."

Good luck to them all... something tells us they're going to need it.

Tulisa's week just got even worse: Kelly Rowland to miss X Factor following bust-up

I think we can safely say that Tulisa is having a bit of a bad week.

First her girl group Rhythmix had to change their name after being threatened with legal action by a Brighton-based charity of the same name (they're now called Little Mix).

And then she was dealt another blow when Ashley Baptiste decided to quit boyband The Risk late on Thursday leaving the band with just 48 hours to find a replacement and rework their routine (Ashford Campbell from axed Nu Vibe has taken his place).

Still with me?

Now I hear judge Kelly Rowland has gone AWOL and won't be appearing on either of this weekend's live shows.

What the?
The Destiny's Child star flew to LA earlier this week after falling out with Tulisa on last weekend's show. The pair came to blows when Tulisa accused one of Kelly's acts - Misha B - of being 'mean' to other contestants back stage.

Now Kelly claims to have a throat infection and is unable to fly back to the UK on doctors orders.

Hmmm.

Tulisa and Kelly RowlandRex

An X Factor statement read: 'Kelly is devastated she won't be here for this weekend's show. She is extremely ill with a viral throat infection and her doctors aren't permitting her to fly.

'Kelly will be returning to the show as soon as she has recovered. The girls have been in touch to wish her a speedy recovery and they can't wait for her to get back. More news as we have it.'

But a show source told the Daily Mail: 'Quite honestly, it's expected that the judges would have to be on their death bed to miss a show. The fact that Kelly has a throat infection hardly seems that desperate.

'The producers are less than impressed and we've have had less than 24 hours to pick someone to stand in for her.'

After initial speculation that X Factor USA judge Nicole Scherzinger was going to fill in for Kelly, show bosses have now confirmed that former X Factor champ, Alexandra Burke will be keeping
her seat warm.

Honestly Simon, you turn your back for five minutes and look what happens.

Who should replace Kelly on this weekend's show?

Sir Jimmy Savile has died at his home in Leeds at the age of 84.

The radio and TV presenter, best known to millions for his BBC show, Jim'll Fix It, was due to turn 85 in just two days.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said officers were called to a house in Leeds.

The spokesman said: "Police were called at 12.10pm today to the discovery of a man's body at a house in Roundhay, Leeds.

"The body of a man in his 80s was found at the property. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."
James Savile - the seventh child of Vincent, a bookmaker's clerk and Agnes - was born in Leeds on Halloween in 1926.

He worked in the coal mines from the age of 14 until he suffered an injury to his back after being caught up in a blast.

It was then that he pursued a career in broadcasting after a stint as a professional wrestler. One of his many claims to fame was that he was the first and last presenter of the iconic BBC music show, Top Of The Pops.

Fellow presenter Dave Lee Travis told Sky News Sir Jimmy was a "larger than life" character, adding: "We are all going to be worse off without him around."

Friend and radio presenter Tom Edwards said: "He was a classic case of what you see is what you get. Nobody hasd a bad word to say about him. He was one of a kind"

DJ Tony Blackburn said: "I don't think anyone really got to know the real Jimmy Savile, but he was quite a character. He was a big over the top personality and was just great fun.

"I think he'll be best remembered for the charity work he did and those tracksuits. He was an unusual person - a one off really."

Sir Jimmy was well known for his fundraising efforts and ran many marathons to raise cash, last completing the London Marathon in 2005, at the age of 79. It is thought he raised well over £40million for various charities over the years.

RIP Jimmy.

Adele has been forced to cancel all her upcoming gigs as she prepares to undergo a potentially career-saving operation.

The 23-year-old darling of the music world is due to have surgery on a vocal cord haemorrhage and is under doctor's orders to take the rest of the year off.
A statement from her management confirmed the news, saying, "It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011.

"She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat - and a full recovery is expected.

"Doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments."

It is the latest blow for the singer, who has already cancelled her US tour and repeatedly apologised for letting fans down.

A "heartbroken and worried" Adele recently admitted that she has "absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly" or she may risk causing irreversible damage to her voice.

The Grammy Award-winning artist recently quit smoking in a bid to keep her voice in tip top shape and told The Sun, "I follow all the advice and stick to regimes, rules and practices to the best of my ability but it seems to not be enough."

We wish her quick and full recovery.

X Factor: Johnny gets a thrill on Fright Night

It might have been fright night on Saturday's X Factor but it turned out to be a dream come true for Johnny Robinson.

Louis Walsh finally allowed the wannabe to ditch the camp staging and silver suit and just sing.

So impressed were the judges by his rendition of That Ole Devil Called Love that Gary Barlow even stepped on stage for an impromptu hug.
Despite the over-25s hopeful telling Dermot that he'd like to sing more ballads, however, we're guessing Louis won't be able to resist camped-up craziness next week (well, he does love a novelty act).

As it turned out, not one of last night's acts had a real shocker. Unfortunately, we couldn't say the same about Kelly Rowland's emergency replacement Alexandra Burke.

Yes, we appreciated the refreshing honesty and some of what she said made a good deal of sense but the phrase 'trying too hard' sprung to mind on more than one occasion.

The Risk opened the show with a shaky start to Michael Jackson's Thriller but managed to pull it together as the song went on and were praised for fighting on following Ashley's surprise departure.

Misha B impressed again (and not just because she had a rhino horn of hair on her forehead) with Soft Cell's Tainted Love, Janet Devlin is starting to look a bit like a one trick pony (despite Louis saying it was "all about the voice" again), and Sophie Habibis, who appears to be one of the strongest singers in the competition, is having her chances ruined by all the "dreary ballad" song choices.

Newly-renamed Little Mix got the tears flowing as young Jesy broke down over online comments regarding her weight, but the girls put the negativity behind them with a sharp performance of Katy Perry's ET, complete with jerky doll dance moves.

X Factor week four round-upKen McKay/Talkback Thames/Rex

Kitty Brucknell pulled out all the stops again, beginning her rendition of The Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams on a spinning magicians' wheel. Alex Burke was worried she might come across "slightly cabaret" but there's no denying she can sing.

Meanwhile, Gary Barlow is doing a fantastic job of disguising the fact that Frankie Cocozza can't by giving him songs that, y'know... don't really involve singing - this week it was Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash.

Ending the show was scouser Craig Colton, who received the usual round of judges' praise for his version of Adele's Set Fire to the Rain as well as an "everyone in Liverpool is voting for you tonight" from Louis.

But if you ask us Marcus, who performed Stevie Wonder's Superstition, knocked his fellow Liverpudlian out of the park. As Tulisa put it (time and time again), he "smashed it".

Strictly favourite Russell Grant may be forced to undergo surgery if he is to continue strutting his stuff on the BBC show.

The 60-year-old astrologer samba'd through the pain on last night's show despite suffering with a knee injury. But according to the Sunday Mirror, Russell is due to go under the knife in the next two days.

Keyhole surgery is expected to fix the torn cartilage in his knee and it is hoped he will be fit to dance again.

An insider told the paper, "A few years ago Phil Tufnell had a similar problem. He had keyhole surgery early one week and then danced the following weekend.

"We desperately hope Russell can too as he's one of the best characters on the show."

Clarkson's ex-wife: 'I still love Jeremy'

Jeremy Clarkson's ex-wife is set to reveal she still loves her former husband and admit she "made a mistake" by leaving the Top Gear presenter.

Alex Hall was silenced by a gagging order until Clarkson lifted the injunction last week following a steady stream of online speculation about an alleged affair.

Hall has since given a number of interviews claiming she had a long-term affair with the petrolhead after he married current wife Francis.

According to the Sunday Mirror, she will tell Adrian Chiles in an interview due to air on ITV tonight, "I still love Jeremy. He got the injunction because he had something to hide. I can prove we had an affair.

"The truth will out. We did have an affair for seven years."
Jeremy and Alex were married for just six months before their relationship broke down, though they were a couple for years.

In his newspaper column yesterday, Clarkson claims she "began to demand money for her silence" when he became a household name some 15 years ago.

Alex, who is on the verge of releasing a tell-all book, denies those allegations and claims she told her ex she "had no intention of writing anything nasty about him".

"I was going to do my book, my life and the impact his fame has had on my life," she will tell Chiles. "There wasn't that much to do with him, I wanted to write my story.

"He's shot himself in the foot. If he hadn't wanted any mention of the affair then he shouldn't have taken the injunction out."

Despite insisting that she hasn't "set out to hurt anyone", Alex admitted reading her book would "be a miserable experience" for Clarkson's wife.

Jeremy, who was the subject of cheating rumours earlier this year, said of his ex last week, "She now has the right to say what she wants. And you can choose whether or not to believe her."

Cowell 'gives Kelly an X Factor ultimatum'

Kelly Rowland has reportedly been given an ultimatum by TV mogul Simon Cowell following her X Factor no-show this weekend.

The former Destiny's Child singer flew to LA last week after a row with Tulisa and was unable to return for the live shows because of a throat infection.

Now Simon, who has already given the new panel an "up your game" warning, is rumoured to have given her 48 hours to decide whether she still wants the job.

An insider told The People: "Kelly has been told it's time to make her mind up. Everyone is supportive of the fact she is ill but other bosses are annoyed at the situation."

The show gossip insists Kelly doesn't want to quit and is "adamant" the big Tulisa bust-up is of no consequence.
But the source added: "Things are at crisis point. Producers and Simon need to know that Kelly is going to return.

"If not they need to find a replacement as soon as possible. Simon has heard things have got out of hand and that it's war."

In related news, the Irish Daily Mirror claims Cowell is on the verge of sacking one of the judges... and he's given Louis Walsh carte blanche to decide who goes and who stays.

Given that Louis originally put Goldie Cheung through as one of his acts, let's hope it's just a rumour.

Strictly: Nancy Dell'Olio voted off after frightful rumba

BBC

Anton du Beke has a knack for turning walking disasters into Strictly star turns but it seems he met his match with Nancy Dell'Olio.

After four weeks stomping around the dancefloor, the rumba - the dance of love - proved a mistimed step too far for the Italian diva and she was finally voted off the BBC show.

The Halloween-themed night saw Nancy rise from a sparkling coffin in a revealing spider's web dress but that, as it turned out, was the best part of her routine and the judges were once again unimpressed.

Even the usually positive Alesha admitted: "You both should have stayed in the coffin."

Having scored the lowest marks every week, the time had come to send Nancy packing, leaving Audley Harrison to dance another day.
The Italian lawyer admitted she had enjoyed what was an "incredible experience" and insisted: "I'm definitely going to keep dancing, because it is fantastic exercise, not only physically but for the mind, for everything, so I definitely will."

Nancy and Audley aside, many couples turned out to be Halloween hits.

Russell Grant, battling through the pain of his knee injury, pulled off a "feisty and fiery" samba, Harry Judd's Psycho Killer tango proved "too cool for school" and Holly Valance appears to be finding her feet, impressing the judges with her "magnificent" American Smooth.

Poor Chelsee Healey was left sobbing after a wardrobe malfunction caused her to stumble and, despite praise from the judges and a score of 32, she was inconsolable until host Tess Daly assured her "we saw absolutely nothing".

Undoubtedly the star of the show though, was Jason Donovan. A sharp, confident and "bewitchingly brilliant" quickstep saw the Aussie propelled back to the top of the leaderboard with an impressive series-best score of 37.

X Factor: Sophie ousted in Kelly's absence (VOTE)

Kelly Rowland might just be regretting jetting off to LA last week because in her absence, both Misha B and Sophie Habibis ended up singing for survival.

Despite the bullying storm swirling around Misha and the subsequent in-fighting between judges Kelly and Tulisa, Sunday's X Factor sing-off was only going to end one way... with Sophie going home.

The 19-year-old did her best, singing The XX's Shelter in a bid to persuade the judges she deserved to stay. The problem is, slow ballads are all she's done and sadly, it was more of the same in the sing-off.

Misha B, on the other hand, has been all about big productions, big costumes and big hair so her stripped back version of the Kings of Leon's Use Somebody showed her versatility and a few tears towards the end showed her softer side.

As the judges deliberated, the girls' mentor Kelly Rowland phoned in (using her very best sick voice) and the decision to send Sophie home was unanimous.
Was it the right decision? Probably. Should either of the girls have been in the bottom two? Probably not.

Let's hope Kelly's back to give her acts some support next week.

David Walliams offered jobs on Britain's Got Talent AND The Voice

Aside from his Thames swim, it's been a bit quiet on the work front for David Walliams of late.

But David need not worry about having to sign on anytime soon as the comic has been offered not one, but two talent show roles.

Mr Williams has reportedly been approached to appear on the upcoming series of The Voice, as well as the next series of Britain's Got Talent.

The BBC have offered David a hosting role on their version of The Voice, which sees Jessie J as a judge, and ITV have promised to make him head judge on BGT.
The channels are now said to be fighting over who will get David to sign with them.

"The stations are at loggerheads," a source told The People.

"David can't believe it and finds it very flattering. He thinks The Voice is one of the biggest events around the world and being the face of it is tempting.

"But David would be head judge on Britain's Got Talent whereas he would just be presenting The Voice. He has a lot of experience and he knows about quality talent acts."

However, the source added that David was reluctant to become part of the media circus that surrounds Britain's Got Talent.

"David is more tempted by the BBC as Simon Cowell's shows seem more about in-fighting than talent these days. He just has to make a decision."

The Britain's Got Talent panel has two empty spots after Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff both left after just one series.

Former X Factor judge Dannii Minogue and chat show host Paul O'Grady have also been linked to the show.

Would you rather see David as a host or as a judge? And who else would you like to see on both panels? Leave a comment below.

New X Factor crisis as show bosses admit to digitally altering Kitty's voice as Strictly tops ratings

If last week's dramarama of Kelly going AWOL, Rhythmix being threatened with legal action over their name and The Risk losing a member wasn't bad enough, X Factor bosses are facing another nightmare week. Well it is Halloween.

After the controversy surrounding the use of autotune on last year's show, you'd have thought the show's producers would have learnt their lesson, but apparently not.

A new storm has erupted following Kitty Brucknell's performance of Sweet Dreams on Saturday's show with many viewers taking to Twitter to complain that her voice sounded like it had been tampered with.
Leanne White said: "Turn off that autotune! If there's anyone on there who doesn't need it it's Kitty."

And Andrew Yee wrote: "Surely AutoTune should be banned on X Factor? Sounded like Kitty was using it."

Show bosses have admitted Kitty's voice was 'manipulated' for the first twenty seconds of her performance but ruled out the use of autotune.

A spokesman told The Mirror: "The X Factor does not use Auto-Tuning. Kitty's track had a retro electronic style, so a robotic effect was used so that the vocals were in keeping with the track. This did not alter the pitch or tone of the vocals in any way. If Kitty had hit a wrong note viewers would have heard it."

And if that wasn't enough of a headache, X Factor also lost out to Strictly in the ratings battle for the first time in four years. 11.5million viewers tuned into Saturday's spooky special of the Beeb's dance show compared to 11million for the X Factor.

The ratings slide has apparently prompted desperate show bosses to beg Simon Cowell to make a return to the programme - something Eleven readers would also like to see according to our exclusive poll.

Who should replace Kelly on the X Factor?

More than 7000 people were asked who they thought should replace Kelly Rowland on the judging panel at the weekend and Simon Cowell came out on top with 33% of the vote, closely followed by Cheryl Cole with 30%.

Could we be seeing yet another change of cast on the X Factor judging panel? We wouldn't bet against it.

What do you think? Should vocal effects be banned from the X Factor altogether? And is it time for Simon Cowell to return to the show? Let us know below...

Former TOWIE star Amy Childs has been recruited as the face (and chest) of a new range of underwear by Ultimo for supermarket giant Tesco.

The 21-year-old is promoting the Bra Queen range, which seems to be a cheeky reference to Ultimo boss Michelle Mone's tabloid nickname.
Amy said, "I actually feel like a queen wearing Michelle Mone's new Bra Queen collection and I'm so excited to be the face of the campaign for Tesco.

"There's a style to suit whatever mood you're in and it's affordable so you can have a different one for every day of the week.

"I love wearing great lingerie as it makes you feel amazing underneath and in Bra Queen I feel like royalty."

There was no mention of whether the actual queen had been approached for the job first though.

We hope that Amy lasts longer than some of Ultimo's former models, because we all know that Ms Mone has had quite a high turnover of "faces" for her brand.

In fact, it's almost as if she hires and fired people regularly in order to get publicity.

What do you reckon? Would you buy your undies in Tesco? Comment below...

The actress behind Corrie's saucepot Rosie Webster has revealed it was her character's tarty ways that really made her want to quit the show.

Helen Flanagan has admitted that she had planned her Coronation Street departure long ago, after her character began bedding many of the Street's residents.
"I didn't enjoy playing her when she went through a promiscuous phase," she said in an interview with Hello magazine.

She also took the chance to again rubbish reports that she had decided to quit the show after suffering from anxiety.

Helen, who joined the soap in 2000, started having panic attacks upon returning to the cobbles earlier this year after a three month break.

"I'd always felt I would leave by the time I was 21, but when I made up my mind, it wasn't even as if I had a choice.

"I just knew instinctively. After 12 years playing Rosie, it is time to be myself."

Rosie is set to make her last appearance in February.

After her departure, let's just hope Deirdre Barlow doesn't take up the role of sleeping with all the Street's men again.

What do you think? Will you miss Rosie? Leave a comment below.
