Odd couple alert! Catherine Tate dating Jason Orange?

Maybe we're being unfair... it's not so much an odd couple as an unexpected couple.

According to The Sun, Take That star Jason Orange has been on a string of secret dates with comedienne Catherine Tate.
The couple met while filming the Fake That spoof for Comic Relief back in March and have reportedly been seeing a lot of each other since Tate split from her partner in the summer.

But the paps are unlikely to catch them falling out of nightclubs or snogging in a back street - Jason is rumoured to have taken Catherine on dates to the theatre, the movies and a few quiet, romantic dinners.

A friend told The Sun: "It's a very unlikely pairing but they have really hit it off... They really enjoy each other's company.

"Catherine deserves someone nice and she has landed on her feet with Jason. But they have both been desperate to keep their romance secret."

Er, yeah... sorry about that.

Then again, will they be bovvered? We doubt it.

We hope they'll be very happy together.

What do you think - gruesome twosome or cute couple? Leave your comments below...

X Factor '£1m record deal dropped'

The instant fame, the Christmas number one, the £1 million recording contract.. it all sounds so tempting.

No wonder so many wannabes are lured by the promise of X Factor glory. Unfortunately, it turns out that £1m record deal doesn't actually exist.

According to The Sun, it has emerged that this year's winner will get an advance of £150,000 for their debut album.

In order to reach the magic seven figures, they'll have to flog three more albums, each worth slightly more than the last.

And as Joe McElderry and Leon Jackson will tell you, that's easier said than done.
The tabloid claims each of X Factor finalist is sworn to secrecy after the '£1m contract' with Simon Cowell's record label Syco was quietly dropped back in 2009.

Matt Cardle, whose debut single recently failed to hit the number one spot, said as much in a recent interview, admitting: "I got an advance to keep me housed and fed while making my album.

"The million pound thing - that's just for TV."

And a show insider told The Sun: "The bottom line is that unless you have hit album after hit album you will never get anywhere near the £1 million from selling records. But it's still a hugely lucrative show."

Since the only winners to really hit the big time were Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke, it's not looking good for this year's hopefuls.

Then again, it's all about that first step on the ladder, right?

Which was your favourite X Factor performance from Saturday's show?

What do you think - even without the big record deal, is the X Factor still the best way for singers to get noticed? Leave your comments below...

Ricky vindicated in poll - but did he cheat? (VOTE)

PA

Nearly two thirds of the voters in our poll yesterday backed Ricky Gervais over his use of the word "mong" in comedy routines - but it has come to our attention that the comic may have skewed the result of the vote.

After seeing our story and poll he tweeted it to his followers, saying: "Ha ha. I've inspired a reforendum. You decide! ( said in a Geordie accent)"
And later on in the day he sent the link out again, saying: "The humourless PC brigade have been out in force trying to influence the vote with ill informed negative comment."

Now we don't want to jump to any conclusions, but when we checked yesterday morning he was losing the vote by about 60% to 40% - but of the 6,000-odd votes cast now, 63% are supporting him.

Hmmm.

More than 300 comments were left on the story, with opinion divided between agreement with Ricky and condemnation for using the word - with a few personal insults thrown in for good measure.

Melanieclough said: "I think he needs to grow up and start using proper humour to make people laugh instead of using childish expressions that you usually hear in the playground. Using the excuse that words have changed their meaning is just that - an excuse - for bad behaviour. Anyone who uses words like "mong" or "spaz" or anything else that has ever been used as a derogatory term should grow up and learn to use the english language to properly express themselves."

While Jon said: "Imbecile and moron were both classifications of mental retardation, but are now casual insults. Retard is also used a lot a casual insult rather than suggesting someone actually has a medical condition. Words take on new meanings, mong is no different."

And Pikeyphilc (about that username Phil...) said: "Am I the only one that finds this pompous git
so unfunny. He just sounds so smug."

Was it a fair vote?

Tom Jones 'in talks for The Voice UK'

We already know that Jessie J has been confirmed as a coach on the upcoming UK version of The Voice, but there are still three places on the panel that need to be filled.

Enter Tom Jones, who is the latest name to be linked to one of those empty judging seats and is reportedly in talks in join the show.
"Tom is close to committing. He has almost 50 years experience in music so he'll be able to give contestants decent advice," a source told The Sun.

"Jessie J will attract younger viewers but Tom's bound to be the housewives' favourite."

Cee Lo Green, who judges the US version of the show, also hinted that he may appear on the UK version as a coach when he performed on The X Factor earlier this month.

Telling host Dermot O'Leary about his plans to return to the UK he said: "I'll be here most of next year. You'll be seeing a lot of me." Ooo cryptic.

Adele and Lenny Kravitz have also been linked to roles on the programme.

For a show that says it is very different from The X Factor with its blind audition format, it's certainly doing a good job of imitating the drawn-out speculation that surrounds the judging panel.

Do you think Tom has what it takes to make a good talent show judge? Who else would you like to see on the panel? Leave a comment below.

X Factor house 'facing closure over safety failings'

There's usually just one act a week booted off The X Factor, but it seems the entire cast of hopefuls could be getting evicted from their new home this week.

Apparently council inspectors found that the luxury Hertfordshire mansion they are living in failed a spot check for fire safety and building regulations - and it is getting a "final chance" check tomorrow.
The Mirror quoted a source as saying: "The place is a total tip, with all the fire escapes cluttered up and a lack of proper signs indicating proper exits.

"Unlike previous years, the house is designated a commercial property, not just residential - so these rules apply.

"Bosses went ballistic and pledged to get things sorted for the next visit."

The £4,000-a-week house, near Hertford Heath, has its own hot tub, pool, sauna and duck pond - and could soon gain a nice row of tents on the lawn if it doesn't pass the test!

And that's not all the upheaval that the contestants have had to deal with this week - because the theme of this week's show has been changed at the last minute.

It was set to be "Heroes", but in response to the show's ratings dip it has now been changed to "Rock Week".

Digital Spy quoted a source as saying: "Producers wanted to spice things up a bit for viewers and they thought the return of Rock Week would provide plenty of drama. It will challenge some of the acts, who have had an easy ride so far."

And an official X Factor rep said: "The change of theme weeks was a production team decision to take contestants out of their comfort zone. Production regularly change themes late in the day."

We told you this morning how the winner would have to work hard to get the £1m promised as a prize.

What do you reckon? Is the change a good idea? Who will Rock Week favour? Comment below...

Kara Tointon and Strictly's Artem on the rocks after jealous rows

Kara Tointon has made no secret of the fact that she finds it 'weird' that her other half is dancing with another woman on national television every week, but now it looks as though the curse of the green-eyed monster might have finally taken its toll on her relationship with Strictly dancer Artem Chigvintsev.

It was only a few days ago that we told you how Kara's jealousy of Artem's dancing partner Holly Valance had led to a tearful phone call with her boyfriend but now it looks as though things have gone from bad to worse after a series of rows led to him moving out of the home they share.
The couple met and fell for each other when they were paired up on last year's Strictly Come Dancing which they went on to win. But according to the Sun, Artem has become so fed up with the former EastEnders star's jealousy that he's packed his bags and moved in with fellow Strictly dancer Robin Windsor.

A friend told the Sun: "Artem left their new home and skulked off to Robin's. The stress of the show has been getting to Artem as it's a tough gig with numerous rehearsals that fill up his day.

"They're a very passionate couple so when things flare up, they tend to flare up in a big way. Everyone is worried that the relationship is now doomed."

But according to show insiders, Kara has nothing to worry about as Holly is said to be 'besotted' with her billionaire property tycoon boyfriend Nick Candy.

Holly Valance and Nick CandyRex

A source said: 'Holly is besotted with her bloke, Nick. She wouldn't dream of spoiling that. She loves dancing with Artem but that's as far as it goes.'

And it looks like - for now at least - the couple have kissed and made up. Last night a friend of the couple said Artem had moved back and he and Kara were trying to 'be civil to each other'.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Kara said they are still 'very much together'.

Just a thought, but maybe Kara should try watching X Factor instead?

Lulu turns to Derren Brown to help learn Strictly steps

BBC

She didn't get off to the strongest of starts on this year's Strictly Come Dancing, but it seems Lulu's improved performance last weekend wasn't down to perfecting her fancy footwork - it was magic!

Ok so not quite, but it seems the singer will do whatever it takes to better her ballroom skills after she enlisted the help of TV hypnotist and illusionist Derren Brown to help her to up her game.
Lulu called on Derren as she was having trouble remembering the complicated routines and hoped he could improve her memory.

"Lulu struggled in the first week, then she and Derren got chatting. She asked him to her next session and he ran her through some mind techniques to improve her memory for the complicated routines," a source told The Mirror.

"He also helped her deal with pre-show nerves. Last weekend was her best-ever score, so it looks like something has clicked."

While Lulu's dancing may need a little more work, she was a fly-away success at Monday's Women of the Year Awards where she picked up a gong for Lifetime Achievement.

Despite Derren's best efforts, we doubt the Strictly glitterball trophy will be sat alongside it in her downstairs loo come Christmas.

What do you think of Lulu's attempts to win Strictly? Can she go all the way? Leave a comment below.

Mariah introduces her babies to the world... kinda

The whole world has finally caught a glimpse of Mariah Carey's twins - yes, we're talking about her children, in case you were wondering.

Well, when we say 'caught a glimpse', what we actually saw was the back of one of their heads. That is unless they have really hairy faces, which would a) not happen because their mother is Mariah flipping Carey and b) just be very creepy.
Anyway, Mariah and hubby Nick Cannon showed off Monroe and Moroccan (we're still trying to get used to those names) in an interview with American TV network ABC.

Perhaps they just didn't feel like showing their faces - their mother is an infamous diva after all.

It's their first public appearance since Mariah gave birth in April but Nick says he can already see some of his missus' more demanding behaviour in Monroe.

"My daughter is just instant, she goes in and will not stop crying until you give her what she wants. It's like sleep and then screaming," he said.

'My daughter is just on one all the time."

Good luck for when she gets older mate, she'll be learning from a pro.

X Factor's Craig confirms he's gay after Nu Vibe outing

First there was Johnny, then Marcus and now it's been revealed that fellow X Factor contestant Craig Colton is gay. So far, so what? Right?

But unfortunately for Craig, he didn't have a say in revealing his sexuality to the world because the Nu Vibe boys did it for him. How terribly thoughtful of them. Well, now they're out of the competition it looks like they'll do anything to cling on to their fifteen two minutes of fame.

ITV

Despite being openly gay, Craig's sexuality had remained under wraps on the show until the axed boy band described him as a 'bum boy' (seriously, really?) during an interview with a celeb website.

During the chat with Holy Moly, Nu Vibe member Stefan Romer described himself as a 'bum boy' which prompted school boy giggles from the rest of the band before one of them commented that 'Craig [Colton] and Marcus [Collins] are bum boys and we love them'.

Wow, who needs enemies when you've got friends like that lot, eh?

Despite the very public outing though, it seems Craig and Stefan are still very much firm friends. The Liverpool lad described the band's exit from the competition as 'the worst day ever' (you're flying solo on that one I'm afraid Craig) and was left in tears as he said goodbye to his close friend Stefan.

And it looks like the feeling's mutual with Stefan taking to Twitter to prove his friendship is very much still intact with Craig, writing: 'Missing @CraigColtonUK so so so much! He has become my best friend and I cannot wait to see him on saturday night! Woop woop! Xxx'

Judge slams Li-Lo over probation, dad says she's on the pipe

Her expression says it all - another day, another trip to the courtroom for Lindsay Lohan.

And once again, it ended with her being handcuffed and taken into custody.

The troubled actress was in front of the judge for violating her probation after managing to get booted off her own community service.
Lindsay was sentenced to 360 hours of community service at a shelter for women after pleading no contest to a charge of jewellery theft earlier this year.

But having failed to turn up at the Downtown Women's Centre on nine occasions, she was eventually kicked off the programme.

Despite volunteering at the Red Cross this week, Lindsay was slammed by Judge Stephanie Sautner, who advised: "Nobody has the power to change my sentence."

Following her formal arrest in court, Lohan is understood to have posted $100,000 bail but will have to spend 16 hours cleaning up at the morgue before the next hearing in November.

Judge Sautner added: "Probation is a gift as I see it. There is something called looking a gift horse in the mouth."

And as if her day hadn't gone badly enough, her father Michael Lohan decided to tell the world that he thought his daughter had been smoking hard drugs - judging by her decaying front teeth.

Speaking on a US TV show, Michael Lohan said: "That's from smoking a pipe with meth or crack. She's smoking either crack or meth, one or the other. I'm not going to shade it.

"If you're talking about prescription medication it would affect all your teeth, not just your two front teeth."

And he then added, somewhat cryptically: "You can't dance with the devil and expect to go home with Jesus."

What do you think - will Lindsay ever learn her lesson? Leave a comment below...
