What with Dermot's dodgy dancing (please make it stop) and the judges rolling out the same old comments X Factor movie night was beginning to feel like a box office flop.Praise be for Marcus Collins, who saved the day with an uplifting performance of Otis Redding's (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher, complete with full gospel choir.
The judges were duly wowed - Gary called it the "performance of the night", Kelly said Marcus had "shut the building down" and Louis still can't find anything bad to say about him.
Also putting themselves firmly in contention were Little Mix.
Their rendition of En Vogue's Don't Let Go from the movie Set it Off received a standing ovation and high praise from Kelly Rowland who declared, "I think you'll be the biggest girl band to ever come out of the UK."
Scouser Craig Colton, who denied yesterday's reports that he's dating former contestant Danyl Johnson, opened the show with the Bond theme License to Kill - the judges couldn't fault his vocals but Louis sparked yet another song choice argument, his comments branded "lazy critique" by mentor Gary Barlow.
Janet Devlin improved on last week with Kiss Me from rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and Misha B blew the judges away with her performance of Whitney's I Have Nothing.
The 19-year-old was left with tears streaming down her face after a tough week in which her birth mother's open letter was published in a glossy mag.
And despite rumours of rehearsal meltdowns, Amelia Lily belted out Aretha Franklin's Think, which featured in Bridget Jones' Diary.
Her rendition did, however, prompt the most awkward moment of the series when Tulisa admitted she didn't know the song.
Picture tumbleweed.
