X Factor: Marcus gives movie night a lift

What with Dermot's dodgy dancing (please make it stop) and the judges rolling out the same old comments X Factor movie night was beginning to feel like a box office flop.

Praise be for Marcus Collins, who saved the day with an uplifting performance of Otis Redding's (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher, complete with full gospel choir.
The judges were duly wowed - Gary called it the "performance of the night", Kelly said Marcus had "shut the building down" and Louis still can't find anything bad to say about him.

Also putting themselves firmly in contention were Little Mix.

Their rendition of En Vogue's Don't Let Go from the movie Set it Off received a standing ovation and high praise from Kelly Rowland who declared, "I think you'll be the biggest girl band to ever come out of the UK."

Scouser Craig Colton, who denied yesterday's reports that he's dating former contestant Danyl Johnson, opened the show with the Bond theme License to Kill - the judges couldn't fault his vocals but Louis sparked yet another song choice argument, his comments branded "lazy critique" by mentor Gary Barlow.

Janet Devlin improved on last week with Kiss Me from rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and Misha B blew the judges away with her performance of Whitney's I Have Nothing.

The 19-year-old was left with tears streaming down her face after a tough week in which her birth mother's open letter was published in a glossy mag.

X Factor live shows round-upRex

Gary said after her powerful performance, "I completely disagree with everyone watching this show, I can't believe no one is voting for you," but he urged her to ditch the "safe" song choices and bring back the old Misha B.

And despite rumours of rehearsal meltdowns, Amelia Lily belted out Aretha Franklin's Think, which featured in Bridget Jones' Diary.

Her rendition did, however, prompt the most awkward moment of the series when Tulisa admitted she didn't know the song.

Picture tumbleweed.

Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb is reportedly battling liver cancer.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the 61-year-old was diagnosed several months ago and has been forced to cancel a number of public appearances in recent months due to his ill health.
Reports suggest Gibb was rushed to hospital earlier this week after emergency services were called to his home.

Mother Barbara and brother Barry are believed to have flown back from the US to be with Robin, who spent five hours in hospital on Tuesday.

A friend of the healthy living singer said, "Robin is not good and there is a lot of concern for him.

"... But Robin is a strong character, he is a fighter and has been encouraged by all the online messages from his fans. Dwina [his wife] is doing everything possible and hasn't left his side."

The source added, "There will be difficult times ahead but Robin will never give up and his loving family will make sure he has everything he needs."

Adrian Chiles 'angry and upset' over Daybreak sacking leak

PA

TV presenter Adrian Chiles has revealed his anger at the news that he and Daybreak co-host Christine Bleakley have been axed from the ITV show.

Rumours of a major revamp began two weeks ago but yesterday a report suggested the early morning hosts had been informed of their fate.

Chiles told The People newspaper that he was "p***** off" that the news had apparently been leaked.

"I'm angry, upset and acutely embarrassed," he is quoted as saying. "Myself and Christine were told we would be going in the New Year but we were assured we could go with our dignity intact.

"That's obviously not happened. We were enjoying the show and we thought things were going well. We didn't want to go."
The 44-year-old presenter claimed the sacking was "a bolt out of the blue" and was a "big blow" to both his and Bleakley's careers.

He added, "Dark forces have leaked it for their own ends and I am mightily unhappy about it."

Following yesterday's Daily Mirror headline, Christine Bleakley simply tweeted, "Morning, what a lovely headline to wake up to. My sarcasm comes across in this tweet I hope x."

Chiles remains the presenter of ITV1's football coverage as well as That Sunday Night Show, while Christine was announced this week as Holly Willoughby's Dancing on Ice replacement.

What do you think - will the Daybreak leak sour relations between the presenters and broadcaster ITV? Leave your comments below...

Amelia Lily reveals diabetes battle

X Factor comeback queen Amelia Lily has revealed she is battling type 1 diabetes.

The 17-year-old hopeful has been living with the potentially life-threatening condition since she was a child and needs four insulin injections each day.

Her dreams of singing stardom mean she is forced to deal with a problem unique to the condition.

Speaking to The People, Amelia explained, "Adrenalin uses a lot of energy, so you have to make sure you decrease your insulin. It's a balancing game.

"When I'm on stage I decrease so I know I won't have a funny turn. I will stay on the safe side."

The singer, who impressed the judges with her rendition of the Aretha Franklin classic Think on last night's show, is determined not to let diabetes stop her though and insists a healthy lifestyle is the key to coping.
She added, "Not a lot of people know what I am, but I would like to get it out and I'd like to help people, especially children, and show that you can still get on stage and perform."

Amelia was booted off the talent contest after the first live show but replaced the hard-partying Frankie Cocozza.

And she was keen to dispel those Frankie dating rumours.

"We got on together really well and he is in a better place," she told the paper. "He's a good lad. But we are like brother and sister. We would laugh at the thought of being a couple."

Strictly: Russell Grant goes out with a bang

BBC

After weeks of providing the fun factor, Russell Grant's dancefloor journey finally came to an end last night as he was voted off Strictly.

His Saturday night jive, to the tune of S Club's Reach for the Stars, saw him fired from a cannon on a sparkly sleigh... an entrance even Ann Widdecombe would be proud of and one befitting Wembley Arena.
Alesha Dixon called it the "best entrance yet", while Bruno described the astrologer as a "magnificent flying machine".

Craig, of course, brought things down to earth with a bump, mumbling "Dumbo springs to mind".

Grant faced Holly Valance in the vote off and, despite Holly's inconsistent jive with Artem, it was the astrologer's time to go.

Having thanked the audience, judges and his partner Flavia Cacace, Russell said of his experience, "Strictly has saved my life, absolutely. I owe this show so much and I've got my life back."

He added, "It's taught me about friendship, love, music, joy and happiness."

Russell Grant leaves StrictlyBBC

Meanwhile Robbie Savage, still showing off his enviable torso at every opportunity, achieved his best score with an energetic salsa, Anita Dobson scored 31 for her samba despite Craig noting "muddy and murky footwork", and early favourite Jason Donovan scored 34 for his jive.

Harry Judd once again impressed with a "full-on" samba, though his hip action needed work (Bruno offered to help him to "work on his bum") and Chelsee Healy "spiced up" Len's night with hers.

But tangoing straight to the top of the leaderboard this week was Alex Jones. Dancing to the tune of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax, the One Show presenter proved strong and seductive and picked up her highest ever score of 35.

Things are starting to hot up on the Strictly dancefloor - the question is, who will go all the way to the final?
