Oh dear, how very unfortunate. It seems that George Osborne has been given a bit of a rough ride by disappointed One Direction fans when switching on the Christmas lights in his Cheshire constituency. The Chancellor of the Exchequer was greeted with boos by teenagers who had flocked to the switching-on ceremony in Knutsford after a rumour circulated that Harry Styles was going to be flicking the switch.
The Sun even reports that some girls were in tears when confronted by the Tory MP instead of their 17-year-old idol.
One local tweeted: "Loads of teen girls turned up. Imagine their disappointment when Osborne walked out!!!
"The screaming soon stopped when George appeared. Funny. He got booed by his own constituents!!!"
Harry, whose home town is Holmes Chapel just a few miles from Knutsford, is thought to have been busy rehearsing with his bandmates in London.
It has not been confirmed whether Caroline Flack turned up at the switching-on ceremony.
What do you think? Would you have been happy with George turning on your local lights? Comment below...
